Cyber Black Cat Wednesday coming Nov 28th

CyberBlackCat-Ad-FLAT

As I was inflating the tires on my car, I bent over and a cold, brisk breeze slapped my exposed back and whistled down all my crevices. It was at that moment I knew... the season is upon us. The only thing more shocking than that sensation is the realization that this year has passed so damn quickly. It was certainly a hectic and trying year, but in the end, I think I've made some major personal strides and I'm ending the year wrapped in a thick quilt of optimism.

With the coming of the season comes another Cyber Black Cat Wednesday. Everything, and I mean everything, in my Shop will be 15%. The sale starts at Midnight (Eastern Time) on November 28th and ends on December 5th at 11:59 PM. Use this code in the checkout.

CyberBlackCat18

No limits so use this code as much as you want. **Note to Guild Members: With this sale, you get an additional %15 off your order on top of your Guild discount**

I'll also be releasing a print of Conjoining of the Lost for this festive occasion and it will be released on November 28th at 7:00 PM Eastern Time. I decided to push back my release time a bit to be more accommodating to my awesome followers in Australia. Here are the details on the print release:

Limited Edition of 120

Holiday Shipping Times

Domestic Orders:

Please order by December 17th to make sure I can get your orders together and shipped out to you in time for Christmas. If you are ordering a print with custom framing, add a couple weeks to that.

International Orders:

It usually takes around a week and a half to 2 weeks to reach any where in the world, but that can't be guaranteed. To be safe, try to order by the end of Cyber Black Cat week, December 5th.

Thanks everyone and to those in the US, have a great Thanksgiving!

The Witching Hour Print Release

WitchingHour-PrintRelease-Promo.jpg

Hello everyone!

I'll be releasing 4 new prints tomorrow, Friday October 26th at 4:00 PM Eastern time.  As always, the prints will be available at Andy Kehoe Shop. (Guild Members, the prints are available now) For everyone that ordered a pre-order of Under the Glow of Anomaly, your prints will ship tomorrow or Monday.

Sorry for the rather late announcement on this. Turns out that 2 straight, solid months of painting, followed by a round trip to Australia, really frazzles the brain. My head has been pretty lagged out since I landed Stateside so I needed a few days to recoup. That being said, it was all totally worth it. Being able to attend the opening of my Outré Gallery show, The Witching Hour, was an all around wonderful experience. Special thanks and gratitude to Martin and the whole Outré Gallery crew, and thanks to the city of Melbourne as a whole for charming me to the core. Can't wait to return again. There are still a couple pieces available so check out the Outré Gallery website for more info.  Or Just Click Here----->   THE WITCHING HOUR SHOW

In respect to aforementioned frazzled, laggy brain, I'll keep this post short. Here's the specifics on the prints:

Upcoming Shows and Open Edition Prints

Hi Everyone!

I got a decent amount of info to unload which includes: upcoming art shows, a new Open Edition Print section in my Shop, and a big announcement on my art show plans for next year and onward.

Upcoming Art Shows

13th annual BLAB SHOW ad

First up, I'll be submitting a piece to the 13th Annual Blab! Show which opens on September 8th at Copro Gallery. As you can see from the flyer above, its a pretty stacked lineup and these shows are always amazing... and always an amazing honor to be involved in. I'm currently putting the finishing touches on my painting and will be releasing the image in the coming weeks.

Outre Show

I'm simultaneously painting a new body of work for my upcoming show at Outré Gallery which opens on October 19th in Melbourne, Australia. I'm planning on having at least 9 pieces for this show, and I'm also planning to attend the opening in Melbourne. Supposedly all Americans say "Melbourne" incorrectly so that's something I need to work on before I enter the country. Australia has been super amazing to me over the years and I'm super excited to visit for the first time and meet all you wonderful people on the other end of the world.

Art Shows Going Forward

With these 2 show announcements, comes another important announcement. This Outré Gallery show will be the last big art show that I do for a long while, and quite possibly might be the last big show that I ever do. I've decided to take a bit of an art show hiatus for many reasons and instead of talking your eyeballs out about it, you can check out this Patreon Post for a more detailed explanation.

In short, I cancelled all my shows next year, including my upcoming 2019 Jonathan LeVine Gallery show (which is crazy sad), and I don't plan on booking any more solo shows for the foreseeable future. That being said, I'm not giving up painting and I still plan on doing a couple group shows every year. I'm just not currently in a position where I can spend so much time, energy, and resources on a big show.

After these upcoming shows, I'll be shifting my focus to Patreon where I'll be diving head first into digital painting and print making. I've been wanting to get into screen printing for a long time and I have some big plans in the department. More on that to come. As of now, I have a lot to learn in both of those departments and will have a clearer picture of where I'm heading in the coming few months. I am excited though and I look forward to fully committing to these new endeavors.

Print News: Open Edition Prints

There are always pieces from shows that I really want to release as a print, but hesitate due to the risk and constrictions of a limited edition release. I also get requests for older pieces as prints but, again, hesitate for the same reasons above. So I just up and started an Open Edition section in my Shop where I can stop all this damn hesitating and offer those pieces as prints. Now you can buy them, or not buy them, since it's all super cool and mega casual. They are the same quality as my Limited Edition prints, printed on the same paper, are titled and signed, and since they are Open Edition, they are also less expensive. Seems like a good deal all around.

You can find the Open Edition section here: Andy Kehoe Art Shop Open Edition Prints

Here are some of the prints available as Open Edition.

CYBER BLACK CAT MONDAY – 11.27.17

CyberBlackCatMONDAY-Ad-FLAT

The holidays are bearing down on us like 9 blackout drunk Santas driving a semi truck down an icy hill at 210 mph hauling a triple trailer filled to the brim with reindeer steaks and eggnog and they all forgot their prescription eye glasses at the Outback Steakhouse where they each consumed 6 blooming onions a piece. It's an unstoppable force of horror, merriment, over indulgence, and run-on sentences. So to get into the spirit of the inevitability of it all, I present: CYBER BLACK CAT MONDAY

Starting at midnight Eastern on Monday November 27th, everything and anything in Andy Kehoe Art Shop will be 20% for a week with the code:
CYBERBLACKCAT17
That includes all of the original work posted in my shop. Speaking of, I just added all of the available work from my recent Thinkspace Gallery show, PRISMATIC to my shop. Is that on sale? It most certainly is. How about all of my remaining Jonathan Levine Gallery pieces? You bet it is. Snazzy iridescent Metal prints? Hell yes. Custom framing? TOTALLY. Cure All Phoenix Tear Tonic? Unfortunately, that's a no. I had a guy, but he was recently mauled to death by a rabid manticore. If anyone has a connection on that, let me know.

All print orders in the US made before December 18th should definitely arrive before Christmas, and international orders should be made before December 8th to be safe. Though I can't fully guarantee any shipping times on international orders because once it leaves the States, it's all in Santa's velvety, white-gloved hands.
Many of my originals will be shipped by their respective galleries, so try to order those a couple weeks in advance.

Thanks for reading and a preemptive & hearty Happy Holidays to you all.
Andy

Upcoming Show: PRISMATIC

PRISMATIC-Postcard

Happy to announce my upcoming show, PRISMATIC, which opens on September 30th, 2017 at Thinkspace Gallery. This will be my first time exhibiting in the LA area in 5 years, so I'm super excited to be back again. Here's the official statement for the show from the gallery:

Andy Kehoe’s work is compelling, haunting, and magnetic. He uses the suggestion of narrative to imply a trajectory beyond the image plane. The viewer is left feeling as though they have had a glimpse into a much longer, and more significant vignette. Just as all effective suggestions of narrative leave one feeling the absence of its absolute resolution, we feel a mesmerizing pull to Kehoe’s narrative fragments, and wonder what else lies beneath the surface.

The postcard image is the first piece I finished for the show called, Together in the Maelstrom. I've been wanting to make a spiritual followup to my piece, Together at the Threshold, for a while now. I made Together at the Threshold for my wife, Ash, for our engagement and it symbolized us at the precipice of our future journey together. This year, on August 25th, we celebrated our 5 year anniversary so it seemed like a fitting time to make the follow up. We've been through a lot together in these past 5 years so I wanted to convey the beauty of love and partnership, but also capture the frightening largeness of it. Giving yourself completely to another person, trusting in them, and resigning yourself to all the vulnerabilities that entail, is at once beautiful, comforting, fearsome, and a multitude of other emotions I can't begin to adequately express in words. Then externally, the world around us is both a grand and dreadful place, so having someone to share the experience is all the more comforting, exciting, and gratifying. But it also brings an extra level of fear and anxiety knowing that all the horrible things in life can affect the person you love and none of it is in your control. All you can do is take their hand and witness it together in all its awe and horror.

SHOP NEWS

Together in the Maelstrom will definitely be available as a print a week or so after the opening so that update will be coming in early October. Check my blog or sign up for my Newsletter for updates. Also, metal prints are now available! They turned out amazing and I've gotten an overwhelmingly positive response from the people that have received one. I'll certainly be considering more metals in the future. Some pieces are just made for it.

To celebrate the announcement of my upcoming show, I'm offering a 15% coupon to my Shop that will be good until the date of the opening. the coupon is good for anything and everything in the shop, including the aforementioned metal prints and all available original works. Here's the code:

“Rarefied Splendor” Metal Print Release 08.02.17

Rarefied Splendor

Rarefied Splendor

After months of toiling and fiddling, I finally got a print made of, "Rarefied Splendor." Pretty excited about these! I'll be releasing them next Wednesday, August 2nd at 4:00 pm Eastern Time in my Shop.

The sky in the original painting was made by mixing iridescent and pearlescent pigment into the wet resin then painting on and around those patterns. So when it came to making prints of it, it didn't seem right to just print them on paper. After experimenting with some different papers, I decided to have them printed on aluminum through a process called dye-sublimation. They are printed on a clear coated aluminum sheet which allows the brighter colors in the print to reflect the metal and showcase some of that original iridescence. They are archival, scratch resistant, easily wipeable, and have a beautiful semi-gloss finish. So cool! I'll include some more info on the dye-sublimation process at the end of the post.

They are more pricey to produce though, so they'll be at a slightly higher price point of $175 unframed, and $225 framed. I worked with my framer to figure out a low-cost, framed and ready to hang option that looks clean and wonderful and is only $50 more. Since the prints are on metal, this also allows me to frame them with out glass which means that I can offer the framed versions to my international buyers as well. Hurray! Also, if you do end up buying an unframed metal print, I would recommend not using glass when you get it framed.

Here are the details:

And as promised, some info on dye-sublimation on Aluminum via Blazing Editions.

Sublimation onto metal is a new, cutting edge, way to reproduce an image. Sublimation itself is the process of going from a solid to a gas, back to a solid - skipping the liquid state.

The image is first printed onto a transfer paper and then is adhered to pretreated aluminum (other substrates such as tile, wood, or glass are also available).

The aluminum and transfer paper are placed into a custom heat press, which is heated to temperatures exceeding 380 degrees Fahrenheit. While being subjected to extreme heat and pressure, the dyes from the transfer paper turn into a gas, are pressed into the surface of the metal, and then solidify into the treated aluminum. As the dyes cool they are permanently infused beneath the surface of the metal substrate.

Thanks So Much Etsy & Etsy Community!

After some serious deliberation, I've decided to close my Etsy store. For utterly mundane reasons, like keeping tabs of inventory and sales tax, selling my work in multiple stores is proving to be overly complicated and time consuming. So I'm going to focus on my web store and make it the coolest, and dare I say, sexiest place to buy Kehoe art.

It was a super tough decision as I've been with Etsy for 9 years! That's amazing. They've been super wonderful over the years and never stopped improving their platform. Etsy brought me out of the hellhole of programming every bit of my shop in HTML... those were dark and painfully arduous days. So thank you so much Etsy, the Etsy Community, everyone that messaged me, followed my store, liked my items, purchased something from my store, and anything & everything in between! All is very much appreciated. Cheers.

This is the first print I sold on Etsy titled, "Conquering Giants." It was sold to Tara Klurman on August 11, 2008. Hope you're well Tara!

Prints are Live

Beyond the Familiar, Sacred Beast, and Nascent Musings of Incorporeal Design are now live.

You can find them in my Shop and in my Etsy Store.

Also, one more thing to add. I've removed the brown frame option from my shops and added another black frame option. This new black frame is the same one I used to frame the original painting of Eyes of the Wild Wonder for my show. I loved it so much that I wanted to include it as a framing option for my prints. I thought it would be great to have a more decorative option to go along with the simple black frame.

Here's a picture of the new frame option.
