Hello everyone and late yet robust Happy New Year wishes to you all!

Hope all of you in the American North East are enduring this frozen hellscape as well as you can. I walked to the coffee shop today and felt like I was in The Road. But instead of contending with starvation, roving packs of cannibals, and the rapid deterioration of all humanity, I just had a freshly baked chocolate chip muffin and a piping hot americano. It was delightful. Suck it McCarthy!

Also, around 60 barges broke free on the Ohio River and are currently lodged against the Emsworth Locks and Dams right down the street from me. Many of them are loaded with cargo and a good number of them have tipped and submerged. And there's nothing they can do because it's insanely cold and everything is frozen and impossible.

Loose Barges

If I had one wish, it would be to meet Cormac McCarthy, Werner Herzog, and Terrence Malick at that snowy riverbank at dawn, and we could just gaze at this profound and enormous display of human folly in complete silence. Manmade industrial leviathans churning and fighting against the unrelenting forces of nature in a cacophonous struggle to avoid the inevitable, quiet end. All our grand aspirations succumbing to the oldest of fates and sinking into the cold darkness to lie amongst the countless number of discarded I.C. Light cans on the bed of the Ohio River. Then we all just nod to each other and walk back to our own separate lives.... Then Herzog circles around and meets at the coffee shop for fresh muffins, and he reads the first book of Harry Potter to me aloud in his Herzog voice.
